sleep stars

Janet Kennedy, Ph.D.

Clinical Psychologist and Sleep Expert

sleep speaker

It’s time to get your sleep on track and unlock your full potential.

You have dreams, desires and ambitions, but exhaustion is holding you back. I can help you get the sleep you need to live the life you deserve.

This is not long-term therapy. In fact, it typically takes only 4-8 sessions to get sleep on track. Together, we will identify what’s keeping you stuck in a cycle of bad sleep and come up with strategic actions to reset your natural sleep rhythm. You’ll finally be free from the racing thoughts, desperation, and even medications that are undermining your sleep. We will work on changes that fit into your life–things you can actually do–that will create lasting benefit. This is no cookie-cutter approach. My methods are based in science and tailored to you.

Bringing you 20+ years of sleep expertise.

You’ve read the books, asked AI, and listened to the podcasts, but you still don’t know where to start. It’s true: the list of things you’re supposed to do to sleep well is overwhelming and seems to require a complete lifestyle overhaul. But that list doesn’t understand you.

When we work together, I will help you identify which habits are getting in your way and we will focus on targeted changes that make a big difference fast.

As your sleep improves, we will determine the best way to maintain your new, healthy rhythm. It’s never every item on the sleep hygiene wish list–it’s realistic and it fits with your life.

I have dedicated my career to helping people sleep. I began by working at the Manhattan VA, where sleep was a pressing concern for veterans. I developed an expertise in CBT-I (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia) and built out the multi-site Sleep Disorders Treatment Program as an alternative to medication-only treatment. I served as Assistant Director of Outpatient Mental Health and was appointed Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at NYU Medical School.

My work at the VA truly inspired me.

Helping people to reset their sleep, learning to sleep naturally and trust their bodies—even during rough patches—was incredibly rewarding. Early on, it could be hard to find CBT-I providers in the private sector, so I launched NYC Sleep Doctor in 2008. Since then, I have helped hundreds of people reclaim their sleep–and their lives in a matter of weeks.

With over 20 years of specialized practice treating sleep problems, I am able to quickly and decisively get to the root of the problem to find solutions that work for you in your unique situation.

There are naysayers out there who think that CBT-I is painful or rigid. And it certainly can be if it’s applied without considering the person sitting in front of you.

My approach is different. I want you to succeed and I will build a program that works for you, in the life that you live, with all of the things you have to juggle. I know what that juggling act is like from my own life and it is my mission to help you keep the balls in the air. I will guide you through this process with empathy and care. Whatever I ask you to do will be purposeful and worth the effort. When it’s all done, you’ll feel like yourself again with energy and focus to pursue whatever you want to achieve.

Reaching a Bigger Audience

In addition to working individually with clients, I also devote time to speaking and consulting. Whether it’s a corporate lunch & learn, employee wellness event, product launch or podcast, My goal is to get the message out as broadly as possible to help as many people as possible improve their sleep.

My Sleep School is designed to provide an accessible and affordable educational option for people who want a self-help approach.
